Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment and Trauma, 2017, цитирований: 0, doi.org, Abstract
This study aimed to comprehend the relationship between primary and secondary psychopathy variants and bullying behaviors in adults (a); to test for mediation effects of the experiences of victimization in strengthening the bonds between bullying and psychopathy (b); and to explore how far gender and psychopathic variants predict bullying (c). Results showed that psychopathy (both primary and secondary) and gender (male) significantly predicted bullying perpetrator behaviors. These same predictors were also significant in explaining total involvement with bullying; primary psychopathy displayed, however, better explanatory power. Being a victim of bullying also mediated the relationship between psychopathic variants and bullying perpetrating. The magnitude of the correlations between bullying and both psychopathic variants detected in this study were bigger than the average reported in studies with children and adolescents, which could inform about greater severity of these behaviors in adult life. Specifically, findings from regression analyses suggest that components of cold-blooded psychopathy could be driving the engagement of this sample with aggressive behaviors. Implications of these findings, along with limitations and directions for further research are discussed.

Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment and Trauma, 2017, цитирований: 6, doi.org, Abstract
ABSTRACTThe current study sought, for the first time, to assess the nature of trauma exposure and resultant symptoms in adolescents (n = 17) in secure accommodation in Scotland. A case study mixed methods design involved analysis of case files, trauma history interviews, and standardized trauma symptom questionnaires with adolescents and program staff in 1 facility. A developmental trauma framework was applied to file analysis. Despite extensive abuse and resultant symptoms identified in files, few explicitly reported traumatization. Adolescents in interview, however, reported numerous domestic and institutional traumatic events. High levels of posttraumatic stress (65%), depression (65%), and dissociation (18%) were identified. It appears adolescent traumatization is pervasive in 1 secure accommodation facility in Scotland. Studies across Scotland’s secure facilities are needed to assess reliability of findings. Indications are that staff in secure accommodation need to have an understanding of trauma ex...
Pick Your Poison: Choice of Activity Determines Mood Management Following a Stressful Task

Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment and Trauma, 2017, цитирований: 6, doi.org, Abstract
ABSTRACTPeople routinely seek out activities they believe will relieve stress. There has always been debate regarding the extent to which different activities, particularly those with aggressive content, successfully manage mood or worsen it. It is routinely believed that engaging in highly aggressive activities after becoming stressed worsens mood. However, unlike experiments, in real life people generally select activities that match their interests. In the present study, 105 university students were exposed to an acute stressor then randomized to either (a) a time filler control task; (b) to hit a bobo doll; or (c) given a choice of five different activities, some aggressive, some not. Results indicated that those who were given a choice of activities experienced the greatest reductions in stress and hostility. Furthermore, evidence did not suggest that more aggressive activities made participants more hostile, stressed, or aggressive.

AbstractThe current study evaluated the new “Children and Grief” program for Palestinian adolescents (n = 158), aged 10–18, referred to counselors for complicated grief. A mixed methods quasi-experimental design involved non-randomized intervention group (n = 79), waitlist (n = 79), and measures of program fidelity and cost. Traumatic loss was identified from case files. Standardized measures assessed complicated grief, posttraumatic stress, and depression at pre and post-test. Interviews of 9 adolescents and 9 presenters explored subjective experience of program delivery. Analysis involved multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and quasi-qualitative analysis of interviews. A large effect size was found for reduced complicated grief. Randomized control trials, longitudinal research, and studies that explore the impact of martyrdom on coping with grief are needed.
